Hidden beaches, pristine sands and crystal clear waters, set Cabo de Gata apart.   A natural park and Unesco Biosphere Reserve it is one of the few remaining unspoilt stretches of Spanish mediterranean coastline.

The village of Rodalquilar lies in the heart of the park in a picturesque valley formed by an ancient volcanic caldera.  Its beach, El Playazo, is justly regarded as one of the most beautiful in the park and offers nearly half a kilometre of golden sands and some excellent snorkelling.

An important mining centre since Roman times, the abandonded goldmine of Rodalquilar rises above the village.  Today the mine buildings have been converted into the centre for the Park Authority and houses the park's main visitor centre and one of Andalucia's ten Botanic Gardens - over twenty acres dedicated to plants adapted to the local conditions, endemic plants and traditional crops.
