Kayak Trips

Happy Kayaks organise day and half day trips for all levels. They will also rent out kayaks for more experienced users.

Horse Riding

We can organise horse riding in the nearby village of San Jose or Agua Amarga.

Diving

Cabo de Gata offers some of the best scuba diving in Spanish waters. There are over 60km of protected marine reserve and coastline. Located far from urban areas and rivers, visibility here is normally 20m and exceptionally up to 30m.
The protection that the marine park status gives to the area results in the most diverse marine environment on the Spanish coast.
As this is national park you will need a special license if you intend to dive on your own and underwater fishing is strictly prohibited.
There are six diving schools within a 15 minute drive of Rodalquilar. Three are located in La Isleta de Moro, one in Rodalquilar, Las Negras and San Jose. The schools offer all levels from absolute beginner to experienced dives.

Snorkeling is also excellent on this coastline and El Playazo with its Posedonia weed beds offshore offers some of the very best in the area.

Guided trails 4x4

Group J126 offers guided trails in Landrovers through park. These are available in English, Spanish, French, German and Dutch. A choice of coastal or interior routes are on offer and last approximately 5 hours.

Hiking and mountain biking

There are some great routes in the park. Over 15 trails ranging from 2-7 hours are within easy reach of the house and several start from Rodalquilar itself. Nearly the entire coast is walkable on easy to follow tracks.
The summer months are not conducive to hiking although over half of the routes are coastal and will allow you to take a dip en route.
Out of the summer season the hiking is truly excellent, on clear days the snows of the Sierra Nevada and the Moroccan Atlas Mountains are clearly visible.
Detailed maps and route instructions are available in the house in English and Spanish and we can point out our own personal favorites.

Flora and Fauna

The park is the driest area in Western Europe and is classified as Mediterranean Subdesert. This combined with a large range or environments from coastal fringe, dunes, mountain and salt plains; results in a wide variety of plants and in the spring the cool temperatures and occasional showers can cause the ‘desert’ to bloom and the mountains to break out in flower and greenery.
